SEO Black Hat came up with a great tip about writing effective headlines: mimic tabloid headlines.

SEO Black Hat [via Wayback Machine] came up with a great tip about writing effective headlines [also via Wayback Machine]: mimic tabloid headlines.

Think about it: tabloid headlines must grab your attention immediately to get you to make that impulse buy. Sound anything like internet marketing? Hmm…

The post lists 54 headline templates that you should try using in your email blasts, search ads, and blog entries. Here’s a sample of the first 5:

  • 100% of _______ you need
  • How to ______ in ___ easy steps
  • ________ on demand
  • ________ from anywhere
  • ________ from your home

The idea is that your headline will grab people’s attention on sites like Digg and Technorati. Attention equals good, grasshopper.
